Badr Hari Accepts Suspension for Use of “Prohibited Substances”

Badr Hari Accepts Suspension for Use of “Prohibited Substances” as reported BY NOS earlier today, following on from previous reports that GLORY Kickboxing wanted to, or, were trying to terminate the doping authority’s contract in the Netherlands; after it emerged other fighters including, Malden Brestovic and Hesdy Gerges were reported to have failed doping tests for performance enhancing drugs (PEDs).

However, this isn’t simply a heavyweight kickboxing problem, is it?

Recent doping cases in MMA with UFC champions, TJ Dillashaw and Jon Jones; as well as most recently with pro heavyweight boxer and former GLORY kickboxer, Jarrell Millar who, was set to fight Anthony Joshua in six weeks, has also failed well publicised doping tests.

Whelan

Luke Whelan Mocks Vinny Church Being “Ranked UK Number One” Lightweight in Kickboxing

Kickboxing Grand Prix European champion, Luke Whelan mocks Vinny Church being “ranked UK number one” lightweight in kickboxing, prior-to their upcoming clash at MTGP 17 headlined by, Liam Harrison vs Charlie Peters, on the Kickboxing Grand Prix (KGP 11) undercard.

Luke Whelan vs Vinny Church has been in the making since the beginning of 2017 when Luke Whelan called-out Vinny Church. After 18 months, the fight was almost cancelled (due to the influence of external parties courtesy of kickboxing politics) due to the fallout from Whelan not being successfully matched-up (twice) on the GLORY 54 Birmingham event 5 weeks earlier where Church was also fighting.

Interesting Fact: Luke Whelan (coached by Kieran Keddle) fighting out of Double K Gym against, Vinny Church (coached by Tony Newman at Te-At-Su), will be the only title fight on the overall Muay Thai Grand Prix 17 event.

Passenier

Mike Passenier: “K-1 F****d It Up! GLORY Are Still In The Game Luckily” & Semmy Schilt’s Legacy

Mike Passenier gives his brutally honest opinion on: how “K-1 f*****d it up”, resulting in almost the end of Kickboxing as a professional sport; How GLORY Kickboxing “are still in the game luckily”, despite the mistakes made the promotion; Semmy Schilt’s legacy; And, how Kickboxing, just like any other sports, really “needs heroes” to help grow the sport stronger.

As well as highlighting Semmy Schilt’s legacy in martial arts and combat sports and why Schilt was undoubtedly one of the greatest martial artists and K-1 Kickboxing world champions of all time and much more. The full interview (link below) was recorded when Mike Passenier first met Anoop Hothi in the early days of the K1ANOOP YouTube channel; leading to rumours growing much stronger about Badr Hari’s comeback against Rico Verhoeven at GLORY: Collision.

McGowan

“People Are There To See Blood. They Want KOs” Not Traditional Muay Thai & Wai Kru – Daniel McGowan

“People are There To See blood. They Want KOs” not traditional Muay Thai and the Wai Kru which, is a very convincing argument by, two-time Muay Thai world champion, Daniel McGowan. As McGowan and K1ANOOP assess the real problems holding back both UK Muay Thai and Kickboxing from breaking into the mainstream and being broadcasted on national TV in Britain.

Dan McGowan provides some very insightful comparisons between Thailand and the UK in how Muay Thai works behind-the-scenes including, the gambling culture in Thailand and how that actually has a bad influence on fights and much more in what needs to change for the sport to become much more popular in the UK.

Widely considered as one of the best young British Muay Thai fighters of his generation, 22 year old, Daniel McGowan was interviewed by, Anoop Hothi; as McGowan plans to fly-out again to Thailand and actively fight over there for the next two years, in a serious attempt to pursue his ambition of becoming the first British Muay Thai stadium champion in Thailand.

Abdurahman

Mo Abdurahman on Bailey Sugden Beef and GLORY Kickboxing “Politics”

Mo Abdurahman opened-up on his beef with fellow Brit and GLORY Kickboxing featherweight, Bailey Sugden and the kickboxing “politics” that he alleges is: hindering his progress within the GLORY featherweight division; and how Bailey Sugden’s Dad and kickboxing coach, Dean Sugden, has a role to play in all of this including, how Bailey Sugden is benefitting from more favourable match-ups than Mo Abdurahman and much more.

Both fighters were finalists in the UK Road to Glory 8-man tournament, securing their initial two-fight GLORY contracts. Mo Abdurahman would beat Bailey Sugden when they clashed in that same final and the beef between both fighters has escalated ever since.

Verhoeven

GLORY 54 “Could’ve Been Better” for UK Return

Do you agree that GLORY 54 Birmingham “could’ve been better” for GLORY Kickboxing’s return to the UK after a 5 year hiatus since GLORY 5 London? GLORY 54 will be headlined by the Rico Verhoeven vs. Mladen Brestovac rematch whilst GLORY 5 had Tyrone Spong vs. Remy Bonjasky.

The lack of stars and big names is disappointing and to compound this, a wealth of British fighting talent has been left on the prelims including, UK Muay Thai fighters: Nicola Kaye vs. Christi Brereton and ISKA world champion, Kev Ward.

Bates

Jamie Bates vs. Tommy King Preview, Rico Verhoeven Carries the Brits at GLORY 54

Jamie Bates vs. Tommy King is the first semi-final of the GLORY 54 welterweight tournament in what will be a clash between two British kickboxers; the event is headlined by Rico Verhoeven vs. Mladen Brestovac rematch and British sports journalist, Andreas Georgiou and K1ANOOP preview this much anticipated clash of styles.

The winner of Jamie Bates vs Tommy King will face the winner of, Mark Timms vs. Dawid Blaszke of the second semi-final on the night in the tournament final at GLORY 54 Birmingham.

The British fighters generally could do with much bigger names fights across all three fight cards at GLORY 54 Birmingham and it could be argued that GLORY heavyweight champion, Rico Verhoeven’s presence on the night, carries the Brits at GLORY 54 but do not underestimate the British kickboxing talent on display on June 2 at the Genting Arena.
